SCBG and SMG Sign a Strategic Cooperation Agreement

South China Botanical Garden, Chinese Academy of Science (SCBG, CAS) signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) in Macao on June 10, 2011, to study together the effects of climate change on ecological environment in Macao. Prof. HUANG Hongwen, director of SCBG and FENG Ruiquan, director of SMG signed the agreement as the respective representatives.

Before the signing ceremony, HUANG Hongwen communicated with FENG Ruiquan, and then came to a consensus on concrete cooperative contents. Afterward, HUANG Hongwen and the delegation group inspected meteorological monitoring field, accompanied by administrative and technical engineers of SMG.

SMG has carried out a series of scientific and technical cooperation with SCBG in recent years due to its authority and abundant research achievements. The cooperation achievements included Flora of Macao (1-3 volume) and List of Macao Plants, making a contribution to species conservation and the construction of urban green space for Macao. In order to enhance operation, SCBG was invited again to sign the cooperation agreement with SMG to conduct ecological and environmental monitoring about the effects of climate change on Macao plants, to provide basic materials and technical supports for carrying out the Kyoto Protocol, performance of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Besdies, the cooperation will conduct the environment construction, and biodiversity protection and sustainable utilization in Macao.

XIAN Baosheng, vice director of SMG, LIANG Guanfeng, commissioner of Macao Civic Municipal Council (IACM), CHEN Yufen, director of  the Natural protection department, ZHANG Guida, director of the Nature Reserve department, and Prof. XING Fuwu from SCBG also attended the signing ceremony.
