IWGS Executive Director Larry Nau Visits SCBG

Mr. Larry Nau, the Executive Director of the International Waterlily & Water Gardening Society (IWGS), visited the South China Botanical Garden (SCBG), Chinese Academy of Sciences from July 27th to 28th. He was warmly received by Prof. HUANG Hongwen, director of SCBG, Prof. XIA Nianhe, vice director of Horticulture Research Center, Prof. TIAN Daike and other colleagues of SCBG.

On the morning of July 27, Prof. Huang briefly introduced the history, current status and future development direction of SCBG at the talk meeting. Mr. Larry Nau talked about the main purpose of his visit, IWGS and international cultivar registration for lotus (Nelumbo). After talk, the both sides exchanged books and other souvenirs. Later, Mr. Larry Nau visited the Central Laboratory, Herbarium, Library, Greenhouse Complex and Aquatic Plant Garden, etc. He was very impressed by the excellent scientific facilities, beautiful landscape and a huge collection of diverse plants in SCBG.

On the afternoon of July 27th, Mr. Larry Nau, accompanied by Dr. Tian, visited the Chencun Flower World, Guangzhou Flower Expo Park, and Yuehe Flower & Pet Market. On July 28th, he investigated Sanshui Lotus World. During this visit, Tian introduced the advances of international research on lotus, current status and future plan of international lotus cultivar registration to Nau, and the both sides had a deep discussion on registration work.
