On July 5, the 2009-2010 Academic Committee Conference of Key Laboratory of Plant Resources Conservation and Sustainable Utilization, CAS was held at South China Botanical Garden (SCBG). Most members of the Academic Committee of the Laboratory, including Prof. SUN Hang, the deputy director of Kunming Institute of Botany, CAS, Prof. SHI Suhua of Sun Yat-sen University, Prof. WANG Xiaojing of South China Normal University, Prof. LIU Yaoguang of South China Agricultural University, and Prof. HUANG Hongwen, Prof. JIANG Yueming, Prof. ZHANG Dianxiang, Prof. WU Guojiang, Prof. WEI Xiaoyi, and Prof. GE Xuejun of SCBG were invited to participate in the conference. Administrative staff of Scientific Research Department and young researchers of SCBG also attended the conference.

Prof. HUANG Hongwen, the director of the Key Laboratory and the director of the Academic Committee, expressed a warm welcome to everyone attending the conference. Afterward, Prof. GE Xuejun, the administrative deputy director of the Key Laboratory, made the 2009 Work Report. During 2009 the Key Laboratory has held 24 projects from the Ministry of Science and Technology, 20 projects from NSFC, and 10 projects from CAS. The Laboratory also got the first prize of the National Natural Science Awards of China; one person was introduced into the Key Laboratory through "Thousand Talents Program" and two persons through "Hundred-talent Program" of CAS in 2009. Over 90 papers were published in international journals indexed in SCI. In addition, the Key Laboratory hosted "The 2nd International Symposium on the Family Magnoliaceae (ISFM)" and Foreign-aid Training Program of Ministry of Commerce "International Training Workshop of Research and Management for Tropical/Subtropical Forest Biodiversity Conservation".

Four young researchers, ZHANG Mei, HUANG Huirun, XU Liangxiong, and KONG Hanghui, who got supports from the Youth Fund of the Key Laboratory, gave academic reports at the conference, respectively. After the above reports, the committee members conducted a deep discussion on the objectives and emphases of future researches and put forward some good suggestions about team development, fund management and so on. The Laboratory will further promote the research so as to gain significant achievements in unique advantage research fields and make big contributions on conservation and sustainable utilization of plant resources.
