1. Botanic gardens and the China Strategy for Plant Conservation
Objectives: To publicize the China's Strategy for Plant Conservation (CSPC); consider priority projects and funding sources for its implementation in 2008-2010; consider the development of CSPC public awareness materials and opportunities for its promotion locally, nationally and internationally; consider how botanic gardens and BGCI can best support implementation of the CSPC.
2. Planning for integrated conservation of globally endangered trees in China (CSPC Target 8)
Objectives: To review gaps in ex situ collections for threatened tree species, in particular for Critically Endangered oaks, maples and magnolias; identify appropriate locations for holding new ex situ collections; agree species priorities, locations and methodologies for restoration; understand legal and policy framework for ex and in situ conservation; and capitalize on lessons learnt in integrated conservation for future conservation initiatives.
